#63 Bears Sweep URI and PC in Saturday Double Header

PROVIDENCE, RI - The 63rd-ranked Brown women's tennis team (4-1) hosted in-state rivals URI and PC in a double header on Saturday and dominated the two teams, defeating URI, 7-0, and PC, 5-0, in a shortended format. Eight different Bears played in the matches, which saw Brown drop just one doubles match on the day, winning all 10 singles matches in straight sets. In fact, the Bears were so dominant in singles action that they dropped just 18 of 132 games played in singles competition.

Against URI, Brown was led by Illinois-duo freshman Misia Krasowski (Deerfield, IL) and sophomore Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL). They combined for an 8-1 win at #1 doubles and then earned wins in their respective singles matches at #2 (6-2, 6-1) and #3 (6-2, 6-1). Senior Emily Ellis (Fort Worth, TX) and sophomore Catherine Stewart (Sewickley, PA) helped claim the doubles point for Brown with an 8-3 win at #2. The Bears won the additional four singles matches for the 7-0 decision. Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) played #1 (6-1, 6-1), junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) was at #4 (6-2, 6-3), Stewart played at #5 (6-0, 6-2) and Ellis finished the match at #6 (6-0, 6-0).

Later against PC, which was played with a four-one format, Brown won the only doubles match, 8-0, and then all four singles matches, dropping just three games. Krasowski and Ellis earned the doubles win, while sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL), Flanzer, Schonfeld, and Stewart played singles matches.
