PROVIDENCE, RI - The 63rd-ranked Brown women's tennis team (2-1) opened its home schedule on Thursday evening with a 6-1 victory over Boston College at the Pizzitola Center Courts. The Bears won two of three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point and then claimed four singles wins in straight sets and a fifth in a tie breaker, after the match had already been decided.
In dobules action, the #29 ranked team of junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) claimed an 8-2 win at #1, while the team of junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) and freshman Misia Krasowski (Deerfield, IL) earned an 8-4 win at #3 doubles.
Brown dominated the top three singles spots with #89 Herzberg winning, 6-2, 6-3 at #1 and Aboubakare winning, 6-2, 6-4 at #2. Krasowski also won in straight sets, posting a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Sophomores Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) and Catherine Stewart (Sewickley, PA) closed out the 6-1 win with victories at #5 (6-3, 6-0) and #6 (6-1, 4-6, 10-5), respectively.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, February 6, when they host in-state rivals Rhode Island (10:00 a.m.) and Providence (2:30 p.m.) in a double-header.
