Aboubakare & Herzberg Named All-Ivy
Brown junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) have both earned All-Ivy honors in a vote by the League’s eight head coaches. Aboubakare was a unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection in singles, while Herzberg earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in singles. This marks the third straight year that Aboubakare has earned First Team All-Ivy honors in singles, becoming just the 10th player in Ivy League history to earn section to the First Team for three years. Herzberg is also a repeat singles All-Ivy honoree, earning Second Team recognition for the second straight year.

#58 Women's Tennis Falls to #48 Yale, 5-2, in Season Finale
The 58th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (16-8, 4-3) dropped its final match of the 2009-10 season, falling to #48 Yale, 5-2. The Bears fell behind early after losing the doubles point, but put up a good fight in singles action in what was a narrow loss. Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) both won singles matches and the Bulldogs needed a third set to claim two more singles matches, as both sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) and freshman Misia Krasowski (Deerfield, IL) fought back to win their respective second sets and force a third set at #2 and #3, respectively. Brown's doubles win came at #1, where Aboubakare and Herzberg upset 80th-ranked Vicky Brook and Lindsay Clark.

#62 Bears Defeat #53 Dartmouth, 5-2, in Final Home Match of the Season
The 62nd-ranked Brown women's tennis team (16-7, 4-2) rebounded from Friday's loss to #56 Harvard to post a 5-2 win over #53 Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon. The match was the final home match of the season for the Bears, who are assured a winning record in the Ivy League for the second straight year. Brown was led by freshman Misia Krasowski (Deerfield, IL) and sophomore Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL), who helped secure the doubles point with a win at #2 doubles and also won two critical matches at the middle of the singles lineup, including Flanzer's match-clinching win at #4.

#62 Brown Women's Tennis Falls to #56 Harvard, 5-2
The 62nd-ranked Brown women's tennis team (15-7, 3-2) dropped a 5-2 match to #56 Harvard on Friday afternoon in Cambridge. The Bears dropped the doubles point with Harvard earning wins at #1 and #2. Senior Emily Ellis (Fort Worth, TX) and junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) earned an 8-5 win at #3 to avoid the sweep. Brown's two points came in singles action where sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) claimed a 6-4, 7-5 win at #2 singles, while Schonfeld posted a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win at #5 singles.

#65 Bears Earn 5-2 Win over Cornell
The Brown women's tennis team (15-6, 3-1) earned its second straight win, posting a 5-2 victory over Cornell (11-9, 1-4) on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca. The Bears won the doubles point and then went on to win at the top four singles positions, including two that went three sets, to earn the victory. Illinois duo Misia Krasowski ’13 (Deerfield) and Julie Flanzer ’12 (Highland Park) helped to lead the way, as the duo won at #2 doubles and won their respective singles matches at #3 and #4, both of which were decided in three sets.

#65 Bears Post 5-2 Win over Columbia
The 65th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (14-6, 2-1) rebounded from last Saturday's loss to Princeton with a 5-2 win over Columbia (9-11, 9-4) on Friday afternoon in New York. Brown was led by sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL), who claimed an 8-6 win at #2 doubles and a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 singles.

#66 Women's Tennis Falls to #33 Princeton, 5-2
The 66th-ranked Brown women’s tennis team (13-6, 1-1) dropped a 5-2 decision to #33 Princeton on Saturday afternoon, as the Tigers remained undefeated in Ivy League play with a 3-0 record. The Bears dropped the doubles point and were quickly behind, 3-0, with losses at #1 and #5 singles. Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) got Brown on the board with a win at #2 singles, but Princeton clinched the match with a victory at #3, going up, 4-1.

#66 Bears Win Ivy Opener, 7-0, over Penn
The 66th-ranked Brown women’s tennis team (13-5, 1-0) rebounded from a pair of losses to post a 7-0 win over Penn in its 2010 Ivy opener. Brown was strong throughout the lineup, winning all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-6, and earning five of the six singles wins in straight sets. Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) had the match-clinching win for Brown, earning a 6-1, 7-5 victory at #2 singles to give Brown a 4-0 lead at the time and clinch the match.

#66 Women’s Tennis Falls to #9 Miami, 7-0
The 66th-ranked Brown women’s tennis team (12-4) dropped a 7-0 decision to #9 Miami on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears put up a good fight, but the Hurricanes singles lineup, which features four players ranked in the national top-100, was too much, as the hosts won all six matches in straight sets. Brown returns to action on Wednesday with a match at #41 Florida International. It is the Bears’ final non-league match before opening Ivy League play this weekend against Penn and #33 Princeton.

#66 Bears Edged by #41 Florida International, 4-3
The 66th-ranked Brown women’s tennis team (12-5) came up just short against #41 Florida International, falling to the Golden Panthers, 4-3. The two teams split the singles matches, 3-3, but FIU’s two doubles wins to start the match would prove to be the difference. The match was the final non-league match of the season for Brown, which opens Ivy play this weekend at home against Penn and #33 Princeton.

The 63rd-ranked Brown women's tennis team (12-3) earned its fifth straight win on Tuesday afternoon, 5-2 over Stony Brook. Brown claimed the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3 and then went on to win the top four singles matches to post the victory. Sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) and junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) led the Bears with wins at #1 and #2 singles, respectively, and a win at #1 doubles.

The 62nd-ranked Brown women’s tennis team (11-3) earned a 5-2 victory over Buffalo on Sunday afternoon in a match played outside, due to some unseasonably warm weather in Providence over the weekend. Brown claimed the doubles point with wins at #2 and #3 and then went on to win four of the six singles matches for the victory.

#58 Women's Tennis Earns 7-0 Win over UMass
The 58th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (10-3) earned a dominant 7-0 win over visiting UMass on Wednesday afternoon. The Bears claimed all six singles matches in straight sets and dropped just a single doubles match, falling 8-5 at #2, on the afternoon. Sophomores Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) and Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) both earned one 6-0 set in singles action with Herzberg winning, 6-0, 6-2 at #1 and Flanzer winning 6-3, 6-0 at #3. Flanzer's match actually clinched the win for Brown, as her victory gave the Bears a 4-0 lead at the time.

#56 Bears Claim 6-1 Victory over Western Michigan
The 56th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (9-3) earned a 6-1 victory over Western Michigan (7-6) on Friday afternoon. The Bears swept the doubles point and went on to win three of the six singles matches in straight sets. Brown also received two three-set wins in singles action for the 6-1 final.

#54 Bears Defeat Lipscomb, 6-1; Fall to #24 Vanderbilt, 5-2
The 54th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (8-3) posted a split on Saturday in a pair of matches played at Vanderbilt's Brownlee O' Currey Jr. Tennis Courts. The Bears cruised to a 6-1 win over Libscomb (4-5) in a neutral-site match Saturday morning, but then fell to #24 Vanderbilt (5-2), 5-2, later that evening.

#66 Bears Upset #32 William & Mary, 4-3
The 66th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (7-2) posted a huge upset over #32 William and Mary, defeating the Tribe, 4-3, at the Pizzitola Center Indoor Courts. After dropping the doubles point, the Bears stormed back with wins at #1 and #2 singles by sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) and junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA), respectively to take a 2-1 lead. A loss at #4 singles by Brown tied the match at 2-2, but freshman Misia Krasowski (Deerfield, IL) regained the lead for Brown, 3-2. Sophomore Catherine Stewart clinched the match with a dominating win at #5 singles, 6-0, 6-1. William & Mary earned one final win at #6 for the 4-3 final score.

Women's Tennis Finishes in Fifth at ECAC Team Tournament
The Brown women's tennis team (6-2) finishes in fifth place in the eight-team ECAC Tournament, hosted by Harvard over the weekend. Yale claimed the title, while Dartmouth took second. Harvard and Princeton rounded out the top four. Seeded fourth in the tournament, the Bears were upset by fifth-seeded Dartmouth, 5-2, in the first round. Brown rebounded after the loss to the Big Green, defeating #8 Columbia, 6-1, and then #6 Boston University, 4-1, in the fifth-place match.The Big Green would then go on to upset top-seeded Princeton, 4-3, in the semifinals, before falling to #3-seeded Yale, 4-0, in the Championship match.

#63 Bears Sweep URI and PC in Saturday Double Header
The Brown women's tennis team (4-1) hosted in-state rivals URI and PC in a double header on Saturday and dominated the two teams, defeating URI, 7-0, and PC, 5-0, in a shortended format. Eight different Bears played in the matches, which saw Brown drop just one doubles match on the day, winning all 10 singles matches in straight sets. In fact, the Bears were so dominant in singles action that they dropped just 18 of 132 games played in singles competition.

Bears Earn 6-1 Win over Boston College in Home Opener
The 63rd-ranked Brown women's tennis team (2-1) opened its home schedule on Thursday evening with a 6-1 victory over Boston College at the Pizzitola Center Courts. The Bears won two of three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point and then claimed four singles wins in straight sets and a fifth in a tie breaker, after the match had already been decided.

#65 Bears Fall to #5 Baylor, 4-0
The #65 Brown women's tennis team (1-1) dropped a 4-0 decision to #5 Baylor on Sunday afternoon in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship Round. Baylor picked up a pair of 8-1 doubles wins (at #2 and #3) and never looked back in singles, winning in straight sets at #3, #5, and #6 to claim the 4-0 win.

#65 Bears Open Season with 4-2 Victory over #69 Nevada
The Brown women's tennis team (1-0) opened its 2010 dual season at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosted by #5 Baylor. Brown lost the doubles point, but got wins at #1, #2, #5, and #6 singles to pick up the victory. Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) helped to lead the team, as the duo won both of their matches.

Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL), the Bears' top two singles players and top doubles team, represent Brown in the first ITA rankings of the season. The Bears, who are ranked 63rd in the country, join Ivy foes Princeton (44), Yale (48), and Harvard (65) among teams ranked among the nation's best.

Herzberg Falls in ITA Regional Singles Final
Sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL), who combined with junior Binaca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) to win the ITA Regional Doubles title, advanced to the singles final, before falling to Holly Cao of Harvard. Herzberg won five-straight matches along the way to finish with 10 combined wins at the tournament.

Brown Doubles Team of Herzberg and Aboubakare Claims ITA Regional Title
Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) combined to claim the ITA Northeast Regional Doubles Title, beating Vicky Brook and Stephanie Kent of Yale, 8-2, in the Championship Match. By virtue of their victory, Aboubakare and Herzberg will now play in the ITA National Indoors to be hosted by Yale, November 5-8. Herzberg has also advanced far into the singles bracket, as she is currently facing Hilary Bartlett, of Princeton, in Tuesday's semi-final match, which began at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Ellis Wins H Singles Flight and Combines with Sorokko to Claim C Doubles Flight at USTA BJK NTC Women's College Invitational
Senior Emily Ellis (Fort Worth, TX) led the Bears over the weekend, winning all eight of her matches, at the USTA BJK NTC Women's College Invitational, claiming both the H Singles Flight and the C Doubles Flight with senior Kathrin Sorokko (Douglaston, NY). Brown also won the D Doubles Flight, as the team of sophomore Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) and junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) won all four of their matches to take that title. Flanzer was also a finalist in the E Singles Flight, falling to third-seeded Tana Illova, of NC State, in the final match.

Ten Bears Compete at Brown Invitational
The Brown women’s tennis team opened the 2009-10 season by hosting the Brown Invitational from September 25-27. 10 different players represented the Bears, with junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) going 3-0 in doubles action. Other highlights of the weekend included Aboubakare picking up her 100th career victory and junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) and sophomore Catherine Stewart (Sewickley, PA) going 3-1 in singles action.
