Swimmers Recognized at Year-End Banquet

The Brown women's swimming and diving team celebrated the conclusion of the 2008-2009 season and handed out four awards, the Florence Filippo MVP Award, the Dave Roach Coaches Award, the Martha Juokowsky Scholar-Athlete Award, and the Service Award, to deserving members of the team.
The Florence Filippo Award is given to the member of the women's swimming and diving team who contributed the most to the success of the team during that season. The team members and coaches vote to determine the winner of this highly prestigious award. The 2009 recipient was freshman Allyson Schumacher (Des Moines, WA)
The Dave Roach Coaches Award is an annual award given to a member of the women's swimming and diving team who has demonstrated the qualities of dedication, personal self-improvement, and sportsmanship. This student athlete has shown true determination, and hard work thus earning the respect of her contemporaries and proving her worth to the team in a number of ways. The coaching staff votes to determine the recipient of this prestigious award. The 2009 recipient was junior Bailey Langner (Martinez, CA).
The Martha Joukowsky Scholar-Athlete Award is given to a member of the women's swimming and diving team who, through dedication in the classroom and in the pool, exemplifies the true meaning of a scholar-athlete. Sophomore Natascha Mangan (Keizer, OR) and senior Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) were co-recipients of the award in 2009.
The Service Award is given to a member of the women's swimming and diving team who exemplifies unselfishness through commitment and hard work in the pool, in the community, and for the team. The 2009 recipient was junior Susannah Ford (Cambridge, MA).
Brown also recognized its varsity letterwinners for the season in four different levels; First letter, two-time letterwinner, three-time letterwinner, and four-time letterwinner. McFadgen and senior Sarah Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) earned a letter for the fourth straight season, while Langner and junior Katie Olko (Harrison, NY) earned their third letter. Junior Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA), and sophomores Stephanie Pollard (Victoria, BC), Candice Sisouvanvieng-Kim (Albuquerque, NM), Kelley Wisinger (Warren, NJ) and Mangan all earned a letter for the second time, while senior Helena Sullivan (Short Hills, NJ), and freshmen Kristen Caldarella (Orwigsburg, PA), Rebecca Tassell (Jupiter, FL), and Schumacher all earned their first letters.
