PRINCETON, NJ - The Brown women's swimming and diving team participated in the Princeton Invitational from December 5-7. The Bears scored 341.5 total points to finish the Invitational in fifth place and also dropped a dual meet to the host Tigers, 204-94. Florida won the meet with 962.5 points, while Utah was second with 729. Princeton took third place with 633 points, while Columbia was third with 343 points, narrowly edging the Bears. Rutgers (189 points) and Rider (153 points) rounded out the seven-team field.
Highlighting the weekend was also six times by three different swimmers that rank among Brown's all-time top-10. Freshman Allyson Schumacher's (Des Moines, WA) 1:50.05 in the 200 free is sixth all-time, while her 4:56.65 in the 500 free is ninth all-time. Sophomore Natascha Mangan (Keizer, OR) posted a time of 56.40 in the 100 fly, which is sixth all-time, while her 2:03.04 in the 200 fly in fifth all-time. Senior Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, Nova Scotia) swam a time of 4:56.21 in the 500 free, which is eighth all-time, while her 16:59.03 in the 1650 free is seventh all-time.
The Bears started off by taking sixth and eighth in the 200 Free Relay. The team of sophomore Candice Sisouvanvieng-Kim (Albuquerque, NM), senior Sarah Goodman (Philadelphia, PA), freshman Kristen Caldarella (Orwigsburg, PA), and junior Susannah Ford (Cambridge, MA) posted a time of 1:36.83 to grab sixth, while the team of freshman Samantha Williams (Nashville, TN), sophomore Stephanie Pollard (Victoria, BC), sophomore Sage Erskine (Arlington, VA), and junior Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA) swam a time of 1:39.81 to take eighth.
McFadgen led Brown in the 500 free, earning 11th place with her time of 4:56.21, while Pollard led Brown in the 200 IM, placing 19th with a time of 2:07.90. Sisouvanvieng-Kim led the Bears in the 50 free, taking eighth with a time of 24.11, while the team of Erskine, junior Bailey Langner (Martinez, CA), Mangan, and Pollard posted a time of 3:57.89 to earn ninth in the 400 medley relay. The Bears closed out Day 1 with junior Katie Olko (Harrison, NY) taking 13th in the 3-meter dive with a score of 229.05.
Day 2 began with Brown's 200 medley relay team of Goodman, freshman Jamie Firth (Felton, CA), Mangan, and Sisouvanvieng-Kim earning ninth with a time of 1:48.37. Langner then led Brown in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:30.35 to finish in eighth, while Mangan was Brow's top finisher in the 100 fly, earning 11th with a time of 56.84.
Schumacher was Brown's top finisher in the 200 free, placing fifth with her 1:50.05, while Langner led Brown in the 100 breast, earning 12th with a time of 1:08.31. Goodman led the Bears in the 100 back, placing 17th with a time of 57.40, while the team of Schumacher, Pollard, McFadgen, and Caldarella took sixth in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:35.73 as the Bears' top team. Brown closed out the day with Olko taking 21st in the 1-meter dive, scoring a 204.25.
Brown opened the final day of competition with a sixth and seventh place finish in the 1650 free, as McFadgen swam a 16:59.03 to earn sixth and Schumacher swam a 17:03.18 to finish in seventh. Sophomore Kelley Wisinger (Warren, NJ) was Brown's top finisher in the 200 back, placing 17th with a time of 2:05.82, while Caldarella and Pollard finished in sixth and seventh in the 100 free with times of 52.27 and 52.30, respectively. Langner was Brown's top finisher in the 200 breast, earning a time of 2:25.86 to place 11th, while Mangan led Brown in the 200 fly, placing seventh with a time of 2:03.04. The Bears closed out the meet with the 400 free relay team of Caldarella, Pollard, Sisouvanvieng-Kim, and Goodman earning seventh with a time of 3:31.22.
