Bears in Fifth After Day 1 at Ivy League Championships

Princeton, NJ - After the first day of competition at the 2005 Ivy League Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the Bears are in 5th place with 258.50 points. Princeton currently leads the Championships with 454.50, followed by Harvard in second with 437 points. Yale is in third with 290 points, while Penn is in fourth with 267.50 points. Columbia (178.50), Cornell (151), and Dartmouth (151) round out the field.

In the first event, the 200 Free Relay, Brown placed fourth with the team of junior Eileen Robinson (Harbour Grace, NF), junior Elizabeth Wong (Santa Monica, CA), freshman Lauren Zatorski (Winnetka, IL), and sophomore Emily Brush (Duxbury, MA) touching the wall in 1:35.12.

Sophomore Becky Kowalsky (Ft. Myers, FL) earned a 10th place finish in the 500 Free as Brown's top finisher, with a time of 4:57.95, while Brush was Brown's top finisher in the 200 IM, earning a 10th place finish with a time of 2:06.18.

Robinson had Brown's best finish in the individual swimming events with a third place finish in the 50 Free, clocking in at 23.61. Junior Jessica Larson (Wayland, MA) also earned a third place finish, posting a score of 262.55 on the 1-Meter Dive.

In the final event of the day, the Bears' team of senior Jessica Brown (Orange, MA), freshman Alexandra Wyatt (Ypsilanti, MI), Wong, and Robinson took third in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:50.55.

Brown continues action tomorrow when it takes part in Day 2 of the Ivy League Championships. Prelims for the following events begin at 11:00 a.m., with the finals beginning at 6:00 p.m.:200 Medley Relay, 1000 Free, 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 800 Free Relay.
