NEW HAVEN, CT - In their final regular-season meet of the season, the Brown women's swimming and diving team (3-4) dropped a 181-119 decision to Yale on Sunday afternoon. the Bears earned five wins on the day, including two by freshman Allyson Schumacher (Des Moines, WA), who claimed both the 500 and 1000 Free.
The Bears opened the meet with a second place finish on the 3-meter boards, as junior Katie Olko (Harrison, NY) scored a 253.35.
Brown was third in the 200 medley relay, as the team of junior Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA), freshman Jamie Firth (Felton, CA), sophomore Natascha Mangan (Keizer, OR), and sophomore Candice Sisouvanvieng-Kim (Albuquerque, NM) posted a time of 1:49.25.
Schumacher led Brown in the 1000 Free, earning a time of 10:11.59 to win the event, while freshman Kristen Caldarella (Orwigsburg, PA) won the next event, posting a time of 1:54.58 in the 200 Free. Brown also won the next event, the 100 Back, as sophomore Sage Erskine (Arlington, VA) had a time of 59.10.
Hillary Samuels (Andover, MA) led Brown in the 100 Breast, earning a time of 1:06.08 to finish in third, while Mangan posted a time of 2:05.33 to earn second place in the 200 fly. Sisouvanvieng-Kim led Brown in the 50 free, posting a time of 24.40 to claim third place.
Olko took second place in the 1-Meter Dive to lead the Bears in that event, scoring a 242.98.
Caldarella was Brown's top finisher in the 100 Free, earning second with a time of 52.80, while sophomore Kelley Wisinger (Warren, NJ) led Brown in the 200 Back, posting a time of 2:06.17 to win the event. Junior Bailey Langner (Martinez, CA) led the Bears in the 200 Breast, earning third place with a time of 2:27.44.
Schumacher picked up her second win of the afternoon, earning a time of 4:57.10 in the 500 Free, while Mangan led Brown in the 100 Fly, finishing in fourth with a time of 57.10. Samuels picked up second place in the 200 IM to lead Brown, earning a time of 2:10.85.
Brown finished the meet with a second place finish in the 400 Free Relay, as the team of Ballard, junior Susannah Ford (Cambridge, MA), senior Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS), and senior Sarah Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) swam a time of 3:33.07.
The Bears continue action in two weeks when they compete in the 2009 Ivy League Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held February 26-28 in Nassau, NY.
