Bears Post 179.5-112.5 Win over Cornell

NORTON, MA - The Brown women's swimming and diving team (3-3, 3-3) cruised to a 179.5-112.5 decision over Cornell on Saturday afternoon. The meet was the Bears' only "home" meet of the season and was contested at Wheaton College. Brown dominated from start to finish, winning the first 13 events, before swimming all exhibitions in the final 16 events.

The Bears opened the meet by taking first and second in each of the first three events. Brown's 200 medley relay team of junior Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA), freshman Jamie Firth (Felton, CA), sophomore Natascha Mangan (Keizer, OR), and sophomore Candice Sisouvanvieng-Kim (Albuquerque, NM) led off with a time of 1:50.64 to place first.

Freshman Allyson Schumacher (Des Moines, WA) led Brown in the 1000 free with a time of 10:22.08, while senior Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) was second with a time of 10:23.65. Freshman Kristen Caldarella (Orwigsburg, PA) posted a time of 1:55.17 to lead the Bears in the 200 free, while sophomore Stephanie Pollard (Victoria, BC) was second with a time of 1:56.57.

Sophomore Sage Erskine (Arlington, VA) placed first in the 100 back with a time of 59.93, while junior Bailey Langner (Martinez, CA) earned a time of 1:10.03 to place first in the 100 breast. Senior Helena Sullivan (Short Hills, NJ) was third in the event with a time of 1:10.60.

Mangan picked up Brown's sixth win of the afternoon, earning a time of 2:08.80 in the 200 fly, while Sisouvanvieng-Kim posted a time of 24.64 to lead the field in the 50 free.

Junior Katie Olko (Harrison, NY) led a 1-2 sweep in the 1-meter dive, scoring a 258.75, while senior Jessica Williams (McLean, VA) was second with a score of 240.53.

Caldarella posted a time of 53.24 to lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 free, as Sisouvanvieng-Kim was second with a time of 53.64 and Schumacher was third with a time of 54.49.

Sophomore Kelley Wisinger (Warren, NJ) earned Brown's 10th win of the afternoon with a time of 2:06.78 in the 200 back, while Ballard was second with a time of 2:09.75. Langner picked up her second win of the afternoon with a time of 2:28.29 in the 200 breast, while McFadgen, senior Sarah Champagne (Philadelphia, PA), and sophomore Katherine Wargo (Killingworth, CT) combined for a 1-2-3 sweep in the 500 free, posting times of 5:09.56, 5:16.40, and 5:17.27, respectively.

Mangan earned another win with a time of 58.75 in the 100 fly, while freshman Melanie Pascal (Longmeadow, MA) was third with a time of 1:00.77.

Brown swam exhibitions for the final three events to close the meet.
