Bears Sweep Columbia and Cornell

NEW YORK, NY - The Brown University women's swimming & diving team (4-2, 4-2) earned a sweep over Columbia (186-114) and Cornell (222.5-77.5) in a tri-meet held at Columbia on Saturday, January 28th. Brown took first in 11 of the 16 events, with at least on swimmer finishing in the top three of every single event.

Senior Jessica Larson (Wayland, MA) started the meet off with a win in the 3-Meter dive, scoring a 274.35 to remain undefeated in dual competition. In the 200 Medley Relay, the team of freshman Sarah Goodman (Philadelphia, PA), junior Julia Lippe-Klein (Palo Alto, CA), sophomore Lauren Zatorski (Winnetka, IL), and senior Ali Will (Mequon, WI) took first with a time of 1:48.13.

Sophomore Dillon Delaney (West Barnstable, MA) was Brown's top finisher in the 1000 Free, earning third place with a time of 10:31.12, while junior Becky Kowalsky (Ft. Myers, FL) won the 200 Free for the Bears with a time of 1:53. 51. Junior Emily Brush (Duxbury, MA) and junior Kathleyn Brandstetter (Riverside, CT) posted second and third place finishes in the 100 Back, with times of 1:00.24 and 1:00.35, respectively. Brown also took second and third in the 100 Breast as Lippe-Klein finished in second with a time of 1:06.98 and sophomore Aly Wyatt (Ypsilanti, MI) took third with a time of 1:07.26.

Junior Meredith Cocco (Lafayette Hill, PA) led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 Fly, finishing with a time of 2:05.63. Kowalsky followed with a time of 2:06.37, while junior Ashley Wallace (Chatham, NJ) took third with a time of 2:07.59. Senior Eileen Robinson (Harbour Grace, NF) earned first in the 50 Free with a time of 24.02.

In a break from swimming action, Larson improved her dual record on the 1-Meter dive to 6-0 with a score of 271.45.

Robinson won her second event of the day with a 52.22 in the 100 Free, while Brush took second in the 200 Back with a time of 2:08.55. Wyatt and Lippe-Klein earned second and third in the 200 Breast, with times of 2:27.09 and 2:29.58, respectively. Kowalsky led Brown in the 500 Free with a time of 5:04.03, while freshman Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) took third with a time of 5:07.25.

Brown took first and second in the 100 Fly with Wallace winning in a time of 59.37. She was followed by senior Elizabeth Wong (Santa Monica, CA) with a time of 59.68. Brown earned a 1-2-3 sweep in the final individual event, the 400 IM, with Cocco winning with a time of 4:31.96. Senior Bridgette Cahill (Turnersville, NJ) took second with a time of 4:35.37, while junior Lauren Harlow (Andover, MA) finished in third with a time of 4:35.91. Brown won the final event, the 400 Free Relay, as the team of Wong, Kowalsky, Goodman, and Robinson swam a time of 3:33.50

The Bears continue action on Friday, February 10, when they face Yale at 4:00 p.m. in New Haven, CT.
