Women’s Swimming & Diving Posts 224.5-74.5 Triumph Over MIT

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's swimming & diving team defeated MIT, 224.5-74.5 in its first home meet of the season at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

Brown opened the meet taking the top three spots in the 200 medley relay, with senior Jenna Zagoren (Cherry Hill, N.J.), senior Ally Donahue (Tampa, Fla.), freshman Han Nguyen (Los Gatos, Calif.) and junior Maddie Salesky (San Rafael, Calif.) claiming first in 1:44.25.

Sophomore Julia Armitage (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) (10:25.62), junior Tatiana Prendella (Bernardsville, N.J.) (10:30.84) and junior Kendall Crawford (Greenwood Village, Colo.) (10:33.37) next went 1-2-3 in the 1000 freestyle.

The Bears continued to grab the first three spots, as freshman Taylor Seaman (Brighton, Mich.) led the team in the 200 freestyle (1:51.09) and was followed by sophomore Marley Cross (Seattle, Wash.) (1:51.23) and senior Sarah Cronin (Westfield, N.J.) (1:53.18). Seaman also won the 50 freestyle (23.13) and the 100 freestyle (50.13). Salesky (23.80) and Cross (23.81) went 2-3 in the 50 while Cross claimed second in the 100 (51.47) and Cronin touched in at third (52.58).

Sophomore Sarah Welch (Beverly, Mass.) won the 100 backstroke in 57.86 and the 200 in 2:04.15. Sophomore Amelia Gilchrist (Greensboro, N.C.) claimed second in the 200 (2:04.92) and third in the 100 (59.21).

Donahue picked up a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.20) with freshman Isabelle Dressel (Wenatchee, Wash.) (1:06.30) and junior Tiffany Zhao (Beaverton, Ore.) (1:07.22) in second and third. Donahue also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.36 with Crawford behind her in second (2:26.72).

Junior Emma Wittmer (Edina, Minn.) and junior Charlotte Rosenberg (Chicago, Ill.) went 2-3 in the 200 butterfly with times of 2:06.02 and 2:07.52, respectively. Nguyen won the 100 butterfly (56.38) with Wittmer (57.62) in second and sophomore Jessie Blake-West (Belmont, Mass.) in third (57.72). Nguyen later won the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.63.

In diving, freshman Marisa Agarwal (Palo Alto, Calif.) placed first in the 3M (289.20) and 1M (257.47). Sophomore Emily Zitkovsky (Lexington, Mass.) finished second in the 1M (248.62) and tied for third with a mark of 268.21 in the 3M.

Prendella touched in at 5:07.27 in the 500 freestyle, with Armitage (5:11.00) and Rosenberg (5:12.71) going 2-3.

To close out the successful meet, Cross, Salesky, Zagoren and Seaman won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:33.43.

The Bears next compete at the Big Al Invitational, hosted by Princeton, on Friday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 3.
