Donahue Captures 100 Breaststroke Title as Women’s Swimming & Diving Concludes Second Day of Ivy Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's swimming & diving team broke four records on the second day of the Ivy League Championships at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. The night was highlighted with sophomore Ally Donahue (Tampa, Fla.) capturing the 100 yard breaststroke crown with a time of 1:01.21, which was also a school record. The four records on the night bring Brown's broken records total to six in the championship. The Bears are in fifth place after the second day of the championship while Harvard is in first place with 956.5 points.

A quartet of sophomore Jenna Zagoren (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Donahue, junior Caroline Vexler (Moreland Hills, Ohio) and senior Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.) finished strong in second in the 200 yard medley rely with a time of 1:40.26 to get the Bears rolling in the night's action. The team made vast improvement on their seed in the race.

Vexler turned in an eighth place finish in the A-Final for the 100 yard butterfly, touching the wall at 54.46, also a NCAA B qualifying time. Sophomore Aja Grande (Honolulu, Hawaii) placed 14th in the same event in the B-Final with a time of 54.99.

Sophomore Sarah Cronin (Westfield, N.J.) finished 11th in B-Finals of the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.18.

In the B-Final of the 400 IM, junior Katie Roach (Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned points with a personal-best of 4:21.97 for 14th place.

Donahue's first-place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke also gave her a NCAA B qualifying time. Roach additionally placed in the A-Final with an eighth place finish in 1:03.34, another personal best with her competing in a grueling second event on the night.

In the A Final of the 100 yard backstroke, Zagoren finished sixth with a mark of 55.28.

A team of Cronin, freshman Tatiana Prendella (Bernardsville, N.J.), freshman Jackie Karpowicz (Wakefield, R.I.) and sophomore Korbyn Simpson (Baltimore, Md.) placed sixth in the 800 yard freestyle relay (7:22.78) to close the meet.

The final day of the Ivy League Championships begins at 11 a.m. tomorrow with the 200 backstroke preliminaries. Finals will start at 6:00 p.m.
