Women’s Swimming & Diving Defeated at Yale, 192-103, in Season Opening Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown women's swimming & diving team was defeated by Yale, 192-103, in a dual Ivy League meet on Saturday afternoon to open the 2015-16 season.

"You need to test yourself against great competition right from the start, and that is what we did today, said head coach Kate Kovenock. "Our team raced more aggressively this week than last and many individuals implemented technical changes that we had been working on for the last few weeks. That takes some courage at this point in the year facing a team like Yale."

Sophomore Ally Donahue (Tampa, Fla.) and Roach turned in a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting times of 1:04.36 and 1:05.62, respectively.

Senior Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 23.17.

A relay team of sophomore Jenna Zagoren (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Donahue, Grande and Tong took second place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.61.

"Our breaststrokers had a strong showing today, especially in the 100 with Ally Donahue and Katie Roach earning a 1-2 finish and senior captain Reia Tong continued to be a rock for us in both relays and her individual events," said Kovenock.

The Bears return to the pool to host UMass on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, starting at noon.
