Women's Swimming and Diving Upends Providence, 131-69

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's swimming and diving team outlasted cross-town rival, Providence, by a 131-69 decision at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics center on Saturday.

 

Paige Gilley (Cupertino, Calif.), Megan Viohl (Millersville, Md.), and Caroline Vexler (Moreland Hills, Ohio) all were double event winners for the Bears on Saturday.

 

Gilley scored her first victory of the day in the 50 Yard Freestyle, clocking in with a time of 24.57 before notching another win in the 100 Yard Backstroke – registering a mark of 59.12.

 

Viohl tallied wins in the 1000 Yard Freestyle (10:43.57) and the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:14.67) while Vexler scored a resounding win in the 200 Yard IM (2:08.56) and the 100 Yard Butterfly (58.21).

 

In relay action, Emma Wyke (Columbus, Ind.), Katie Roach (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Leigh Holmes (Alma, Mich.), and Kate Dillione (Newtown, Pa.) combined to take home the crown in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a mark of 1:50.00.

 

The Bears also boasted a victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay on the strength of performances from Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.), Megan Nolet (Saratoga, Calif.), Grace Hendee (Wilton, Conn.), and Vexler.

 

Elly Vitek (Western Springs, Ill.), Reia Tong, and Briana Borgolini (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) also added individual event wins for Brown on Saturday.

 

The Bears will return to action next Saturday with a noon meet at Ivy League rival, Harvard.
