Bears Win Kurtz Cup at Howe Cup National Championship

Boston, Mass. - The Brown women's squash team completed an outstanding Howe Cup National Championship run, placing first in the Kurtz Division with a 6-3 win over Dartmouth to finish ninth in the nation.

After easily disposing of George Washington, 9-0, and Bowdoin, 8-1, the Bears took on Dartmouth in the finals of the Kurtz Cup. In a match that swayed back and forth, Brown took charge and earned a thrilling 6-3 victory over the Big Green.

Junior Laura Pyne earned a solid 3-0 win at number three, setting the pace for the Bears. Brown won matches five through nine, with freshman Nikoo Fadaifard capturing a 3-0 victory at number five.

Junior Kali Schellenberg came through in a pivotal five set marathon match at number six, taking a 9-7, 8-10, 9-1, 5-9, 9-4 decision. Sophomore Carloyn Tilney, senior Charlotte MacMillan and junior Sarah Roberts cruised to 3-0 wins at numbers seven through nine, to clinch the victory for the Bears.
