Providence, RI - The Brown women's squash team wrapped up its season with the Annual Squash Team Banquet at the Faculty Club with the announcement of team captains for 2017-18, the presentation of team awards and the announcement of the incoming Class of 2021.
Among several awards presented, the team and coaches recognized senior captains Hannah Hay-Smith and Isabel Scherl, and junior captain Quincy Beck for earning CSA Scholar-Athlete Awards which are awarded to upperclassmen who play 50% or more matches in the season and have a 3.5 or above GPA. Beck was also recognized as a Winter Academic All Ivy recipient for 2016-2017.
There were several awards presented at the team banquet. The Best record at the Howe Cup went to sophomore Katrina Northrop, who went 3-0 at the tournament. The Most Improved Player Award went to junior Sophie Book and freshman Scarlett Bergam. The Melucci-Morphy Award was awarded to Hay-Smith and Beck, while Hay-Smith also won the The Kate Brodsky Award.
Head Coach Stuart le Gassick thanked senior captains Hay-Smith and Scherl for their wonderful leadership and contributions to the Squash team over their four years on College Hill.
The Bears are looking forward to the arrival on campus of two freshmen, Catherine Kimmel and Alexa Jacobs, in the fall of 2017. Alexa is the daughter of Ashley Jacobs '91 a former squash captain of the Brown team.
The squash program is looking forward to the Graduation weekend this May. On Friday, May 26, 2017 the team will host - at the Pizzitola Squash Courts - an Alumni reunion in the late afternoon between 5pm and 6:30pm. We hope that we will see you there before the Campus Dance.
