Providence, RI - The Brown women's squash team wrapped up its season with the Annual Squash Team Banquet at the Faculty Club in Providence.
Among several awards presented, the team and coaches recognized six players who received CSA Scholar-Athlete Awards presented to those Junior or Senior athletes who played in 50% of matches and whose GPA was 3.5 or above: Meredith Schmidt-Fellner '15 , Co-Captain Dori Rahbar '14, Co-Captain Sarah Domenick '14, and Katherine Elliott-Moskwa '15, Mina Shakarshy '15 and Alexandra White '15.
The award for the "Best Record at the Howe Cup" went to Shakarshy, who posted a 3-0 mark over the weekend of squash. (Mina won this award as a Freshman too!). The Most Improved Player award went to both Emily Richmond '16 and Hannah Hay-Smith '17.
The Melucci-Morphy Award was awarded to Rahbar and Shakarshy. This award is "presented to that woman who exemplifies the highest levels of skills, the excellent standard of sportsmanship and who has made significant contributions to the team".
The Katherine Brodsky Award was donated on May 4th 1987 by Richard M. Polsky and Family in memory of Kate. Rahbar won the award that is given annually to the woman on the Brown University Squash Team who most exemplifies Kate's excellence of character on and off the court.
The team voted for the Captains for the 2014-2015 season, and the Bears will be led by tri-captains Katherine Elliot-Moskwa '15, Mina Shakarshy '15 and Alexandra White '15.
The squash program thanked its seniors Sarah Domenick, Dori Rahbar, Christina Fleischer, Kathryn Yates, Meredith Schmidt-Fellner for their leadership and efforts on and off the squash courts over their four years. Special appreciation was given to Domenick who is going to be a Fulbright Scholar in Paris next year, and who at the Individuals won the 1st round Consolation in the Holleran Cup!
The Bears are looking forward to the arrival on campus of three freshmen: Katherine Pisani, Harriton H.S., PA; Quincy Beck, Colonel Gray Senior High School, Prince Edward Island Canada; and Lauren Kotin, Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School, NY.
