Brown Beats Middlebury, Falls To Stanford

The 10th ranked Brown women's squash team split this weekend, losing 9-0 to Stanford and winning a thrilling match against Middlebury, 5-4, in competition at the Yale Round Robin in New Haven, Connecticut.

While the Stanford squad was strong and deep - but the match against Middlebury was a classic.

At one and two, sophomore Sarah Crosky and freshman Sarah Domenick both had strong battles before falling, 3-2. From 3-7 in the lineup, Brown won all five matches.

At #7, senior Sophie Scherl won comfortably in three, while junior Nikki Fadaifard at #5, and freshman Dori Rahbar at #3, were both nursing injuries and bravely fought through pain to win in 4 games.

The most exciting match was at #6 where sophomore Lydia Smith won in five games with a nail-biting 11-9 win in the fifth, after showing great determination and athleticism to come back from an 11-1 first game setback to capture an important match.

Brown needed one more to seal the win - and senior co-captain Carolyn Tilney at #4 lost the first game - but won the remaining 3 games, playing her very best squash to take the fifth and winning match.

Next up for the Bears is third-ranked Trinity at home on February 1st, starting at 5:00 p.m.
