Bonnie Skrenta Named Assistant Softball Coach

Providence, RI - Bonnie Skrentra has been named assistant softball coach at Brown University. Skrentra joins the Bears after serving as head coach for three seasons at DePauw University. Skrenta saw a steady improvement while at DePauw, going from a 6-24 record her first year to a 19-18-1 record last season.

At DePauw, Skrenta administered all aspects of the softball program from training, recruiting and budgeting. Skrenta's Tigers recorded a team GPA above 3.2 and had nine athletes earn SCAC conference awards.

Before heading to DePauw, Skrenta served as assistant coach at Smith College for two years. At Smith, Skrenta conducted on field instruction and practice planning as well as organized the team's travel and served as a head coach during the fall season.

Skrenta also was a Coast Guard Academy Cadet in the United States Coast Guard from 1996-98. While there, she was named an ECAC Second Team New England Division III Softball All-Star and a Third Team All-Region selection. She also served as a head coach for the western region at the 2001 Bay State Games.

Skrenta graduated from Providence College in 2000, earning a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics and a minor in business studies. While at Providence, she was a captain on the Friars' softball team as a senior. In May 2002, she earned a master of science in exercise and sport studies from Smith. At Smith, she served as a Teacher Fellow in the department of exercise and sports studies.
