Three Named To 2003 All-Ivy Softball Team

Three members of the Brown softball team earned All-Ivy honors for the 2003 season. Junior Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) and sophomore Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA) were named to the First Team while freshman Jaimie Wirkowski (Edison, NJ) earned Second Team honors.
Leonetti led the Bears in batting with a .339 average and in hits with 41, playing and starting in all 39 games at second base. Her eight stolen bases and four triples were also tops on the team while her 18 RBI, 23 runs and seven doubles were third on the team. Leonetti recorded 113 putouts and a team-high 95 assists with a .972 fielding percentage on the year as well. Leonetti has earned All-Ivy honors for three straight seasons. She was also a First Team selection in 2002.
Omokaro was named to the First Team at the designated players position. Omokaro batted a team-high .353 in Ivy League matches and .289 overall in 38 games. Her 37 hits at the lead-off spot were third on the team while her 25 runs were first. Omokaro also recorded six RBI and six stolen bases on the season.
Wirkowski led Brown with 24 RBI and was second in batting with a .317 average, playing and starting in 37 games at utility. Her 38 hits and eight doubles were second on the team. Wirkowski had a team-high nine game hitting streak midway through the season. She played a total of four different positions throughout the season, recording 117 putouts and 78 assists, both second on the team.
