Bears Split Decisions With Lions
Columbia pitcher Allison Buehler carried her team to victory in the opening game, throwing a one-hitter and going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI. Three other Lions were 2-for-3 batting and combined for four RBI to help their team to the five-inning win. Brown senior Aleana Sutton (West Hartford, CT) was tagged with her third loss of the season on the mound, allowing 13 hits and striking out four.
The Bears had an all-around great game in the second contest, as pitcher Ellie Blake (Downers Grove, IL) scattered four Lion hits to pick up her first shutout and third victory of the season. The game was scoreless until the top of the eighth inning, when Angie Galt (Silver Spring, MD) got the offense started with a single to left field. Blair Smith (Independence, MO) came in to pinch hit and smacked an RBI double, and both Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA) and Julia Iudicello (North Reading, MA) had singles and one RBI in the inning. The Bears were able to hold off any counterattack in the bottom half of the eighth to claim victory.
The Brown squad is next headed to Boston College, where it will take on the Eagles in a doubleheader this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
