Senior shortstop Mary Seid (Spring Valley, CA) earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors after a dominant performance in the UMBC Tournament this weekend hitting .647, to help Brown win the tournament crown. For her performance in the tournament, Seid was named to the All-Tournament Team and named Co-MVP.
The Bear's leadoff hitter went 3-5 (.600) in the Championship Game against Niagara, bringing in a runner each time she stepped in the batter's box. In the semi-final game against UMBC, Seid got the Bears on the board early, when she hit a two run homerun in the top of the second. The homerun was the first of her career.
Seid, who has recorded a hit in 17 of the first 18 games Brown has taken the field, is currently on a 15 game hitting streak, going 26-49 in that time for a .531 batting average. Among the Bears, Seid is the leader in eight of the twelve batting categories, including batting average (.475), runs scored (13), total bases (36), slugging percentage (.610), hits (28), triples (1), and on base percentage (.530). The speedy shortstop has also been tearing up the bases going 7-8 in stolen bases, best on Brown.
Seid and the Bears will take on University of Maryland in a doubleheader match-up this afternoon, as the first pitch will be thrown at 2:00 p.m.
