Softball Splits Doubleheader Against University of Rhode Island

Game #1

In the first contest of the day, The Rams jumped out on top in the 4th inning, taking a 3-0 lead by RBIs from Kim Custance and Kristin Havdoglas.

Brown would battle back in the bottom of the 5th, when Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) reached on an error by Ram shortstop, scoring Maggie Haskins (Chicago, IL). The next run would come when Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) sent a double down the left field line, driving Leonetti to home plate.

In the top of the sixth, Brown gave up three Ram runs, as URI extended its lead to 6-2. Brown strung together a strong 7th inning, but came up just short of the four runs needed to tie the game. In the final stanza Brown recorded 4 hits and 3 runs. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA) singled through the right side, scoring Leonetti and Katie Tone (North Reading, MA). Brown's final run of the game came on a Cara Howe (Missouri City, TX) RBI single to center field, which scored Omokaro.

Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA) pitched 5.2 innings, giving up eight hits and 6 runs, while striking out 1 batter. Omokaro threw for 1-1 inning, striking out three of the five batters she faced.

Laura Leonetti went 3 for 4 in the game, including 1 RBI. Cara Howe was 2 for 4, while Uchenna Omokaro went 1-3, with two RBIs.

Game #2

In game #2, Brown rallied to take a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the 2nd, after trailing 2-1 at the end of the 1st. Brown's first run in the 1st inning, resulted from a Cara Howe RBI single to left field, which scored Leonetti.

In an impressive 4-run second inning performance, Uchenna Omokaro and Cara Howe each recorded RBIs, with Omokaro, Katie Tone, Angie Galt (Silver Spring, MD), and Leonetti all scoring.

In the bottom of the 4th, Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA) stepped up to the plate to ground out to shortstop, but not before driving in Julia Iudicello (McLean, VA), to make the score 6-3.

Brown's final two runs of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Katie Tone and Angie Galt were credited with the RBIs in the inning.

Erin Durlesser pitched a complete game for the Bears, giving up nine hits and 3 runs, while striking out four batters.

On the hitting side, Cara Howe led the way going 3 for 3, including 3 RBIs.

Brown returns to action on Friday April 26 for its final Ivy matchup of the season. The Bears will compete against the Yale Bulldogs at New Haven, with game time set for 3:00pm.
