Cambridge, MA - Two losses were handed to the Brown softball team on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader against Harvard. The Bears were defeated 4-0 in game one, and then 6-1 in game two.
Brown, who could only muster three hits in the first contest, fell behind 2-0 after just the first inning. Harvard's Lauren Murphy was able to hit a double to bring in teammate Julia Kidder who got on from a sacrifice bunt to put the score at 1-0. Murphy was then brought home by a single by Danielle Kerper, increasing The Crimson's lead to 2-0 heading into the second.
A scoreless second inning for both teams, led to another two-run inning for Harvard in the third. A double by Harvard's Hayley Bock brought two runners home, putting the score at 4-0. Neither team was able to score again, as Harvard picked up a 4-0 win in game one.
Harvard out hit the Bears 7-3, as their pitcher, Shelly Madick struck out nine Brown batters in six innings. At the mound for Bruno was Jessica Iwasaki, pitching six innings, striking out three.
In game two, Harvard took a gradual lead, tallying one run in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and two in the fifth. The Bears were able to get on the scoreboard in the sixth, after senior Liz Anderson (Oak Hill, VA) hit a homerun to centerfield. Unfortunately, the Bears weren't able to muster up any more runs, falling to The Crimson, 6-1.
The Bears were out hit 11-3, while sophomore Michelle Moses (Cooper City, FL), was as the mound pitching six innings and striking out four Harvard batters.
