Cambridge, MA - The Brown softball team (7-24, 1-11) lost 6-2 to the Boston College Eagles in a single game on Thursday afternoon at Shea Field. Freshman Jessica Iwasaki (Cupertino, CA) started at the mound, pitching three innings, allowing four hits and giving up two runs.
The Bears' two runs came in the first inning, after a double by freshman Andrea Browne (Vineland, NJ) started off the offense. Freshman Brittany Lavine (Peoria, AZ) walked and sophomore Kelsey Wilson (Monterey, CA) singled to left center to bring in the Bears' first run.
Freshman Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) brought in the next run with a single to center field, scoring Wilson and putting the score at 2-0. The Eagles answered right back, and picked up a run in the bottom of the first when Britney Thompson doubled to left field to bring home Ashley Obrest who had doubled as well.
In the second inning. Boston College was able to tie the game at 2-2, after Weir singled to center field. Carley McNary came in to pinch run, and stole second and third. She then scored on a throwing error by Brown's Amy Baxter (Hollister, CA) to tie the game.
The game remained tied until the fifth inning, when BC got hot at the plate picking up four runs to make the score 6-2. Sophomore Kristen Schindler (Caldwell, NJ) came in to relieve Iwasaki, and ended up giving up the four runs to eventually lose the game. Sophomore Michelle Moses (Cooper City, FL) came in for relief in the fifth, striking out one batter, and allowing just one hit.
Picking up RBIs was Wilson and Asay, and scoring the Bears' runs were Browne, and Wilson.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday when they take on Harvard in Cambridge. Their next home game will be on Tuesday, April 24, when they play the University of Rhode Island at 3 p.m.
