Bears Drop to Princeton, 2-1 and 1-0

The Brown softball team dropped a doubleheader to Princeton on Saturday, April 17. The Bears fell 2-1 in game one and 1-0 in game two. Brown is now 10-15 overall and 3-3 in the Ivy League.

Princeton jumped on Brown early in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Bears rallied to tie the score in the third when sophomore Jaimie Wirkowski hit a rocket to right field to score Mary Seid who led off the inning with a single.

Brown had a chance to take the lead with a runner in scoring position in the fifth, but failed to capitalize on the golden opportunity.

The Tigers regained the lead, 2-1, in the fifth and shut down the Bears in the last two innings of the game.

Wirkowski led the Bears going 1-3 with an RBI.

In game two, both teams had chances to score with runners in scoring position, but the game proved to be a pitchers duel with both teams remaining scoreless until the Tigers notched the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Four players tallied hits for the Bears in the loss.

Junior Uchenna Omokaro suffered the loss on the mound giving up one run on five hits and striking out five.

Brown will continue action tomorrow when they travel to the University of Pennsylvania for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
