Softball Ties Princeton 5-5 After Dropping Game One 2-0 In Doubleheader Action

Providence, RI - The Brown softball team went 0-1-1 against Princeton on Monday Apr. 14 in an Ivy League doubleheader match. The Bears dropped game one 2-0 and battled back from a 4-0 deficit in game two, earning a 5-5 tie after the game was called due to darkness. Brown is now 11-13-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Ivy League this season.
In game one, sophomore Uchenna Omokaro got the start on the mound. In seven complete innings of work, Omokaro struck out six and allowed two runs.
The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to take the 2-0 win. Erin Snyder allowed just two hits in seven innings and struck out 11 for the Tigers.
Omokaro and freshman Jaimie Wirkowski recorded the Bears two hits.
In game two, Brown bounced back from a 4-0 deficit after the Tigers recorded four runs in the opening frame.
Brown scored two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to two. After Princeton got one more run on the board in the top of the fifth, the Bears scored a trio of runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 5-5.
The game was called due to darkness after eight innings, ending the game in a 5-5 tie. As of now, the game is suspended and does not count on the Bears' record. The game will only be finished if deemed necessary for standings by the Ivy League office.
Sophomore Marissa Berkes pitched a complete game, striking out three and allowing three earned runs and six hits.
Brown recorded 11 hits with junior Laura Leonetti leading the way. Leonetti went 4-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs. Wirkowski went 2-4 with a double, one RBI, one run and one stolen base. Omokaro was 2-5 with a run scored.
Brown continues action on Friday Apr. 18 at Dartmouth beginning at 3 p.m.
