Brown Softball Faces Columbia in Doubleheader
April 14, 2002
In game one, Columbia got its only run in the top of the sixth, when Allison Buehler hit a double off Brown pitcher Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA), driving home Courtney Ryan. Durlesser pitched a complete game for the Bears, striking out four batters, and giving up five hits. Julia Iudicello went 1-3 in the game, while Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) was 1-2.
In game two, the Bears put on a solid hitting performance, with senior Julia Iudicello (McLean, VA) leading the way with a 3-4 day, including one RBI. The Lions would light up the scoreboard first again, as Allison Buehler scored after an error in the top of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded in the fourth, Stephanie Reeder advanced on an error by Brown's shortstop, allowing Marisa Marconi to score the second run of the inning.
Brown battled back to earn its only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Lizzie Buza (Houston, TX) got the inning started by stroking a single to left field. Buza would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX). Julia Iudicello was credited with an RBI, when she drove home Buza, who had advanced on Uchenna Omokaro's (Hercules, CA) line out to right field.
Freshman Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA) pitched all seven innings for the Bears, allowing six hits, and striking out one batter. Juniors Cara Howe (Missouri City, TX) and Melissa Brown each went 2-4 in the game.
Brown (7-17, 2-6) return to action on April 18 for a doubleheader at Fairfield University.
