Providence, RI - The Brown softball team (5-14, 0-8 Ivy) dropped two games to the visiting Princeton Tigers (11-17, 8-0) this afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. Bruno lost game one, 7-0, and was then defeated 5-3 in game two of the doubleheader.

While neither team scored in the first inning, Princeton picked up its first run in the top of the second when first baseman Jamie Lettire homered to left field off Brown pitcher Michelle Moses (Cooper City, FL). Princeton picked up another run in the fourth when designated player Kristin Arguedas singled to center field to bring home Collette Abbott to put the Tigers ahead, 2-0.

With a runner on second base in the fifth inning, pitcher Emily Chaddock (Laguna Niguel, CA) came in to relieve Moses to pitch 2.2 innings. Unfortunately, she couldn't stop the hot hitting Tigers, as they went on to score another run in the fifth, and then explode for four more in the sixth.

Moses (5-6) received the loss at the mound, pitching 4.1 innings allowing five hits, and three runs. She struck out five batters and walked just one. Chaddock also allowed five hits, and four runs, while striking out two batters in her 2.2 innings.

In game two, Princeton scored the first run of the game in the second inning when Lettire doubled to left field and then scored unearned after a dropped fly ball in the outfield. Freshman Kristie Chin (Katy, TX) pitched the game's first five innings to give up three runs and allow just five hits while striking out two batters. Bruno picked up the slack in the fourth inning and got the bats going to score three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

After junior shortstop Kelsey Wilson (Monterey, CA) reached first on an error by Princeton's shortstop, senior catcher Linnea Anderson (El Dorado Hills, CA) came up with a single to left field to advance Wilson to second. Chaddock put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners, and then sophomore Andrea Browne (Vineland, NJ) came in to pinch hit. Browne came up huge with a single down the right field line, scoring both Wilson and Anderson. Next at the plate was freshman centerfielder Maria Macrina (Sherrill, NY), who came through with a double to left center to score Browne and give the Bears a two-run lead.

But the Tigers wouldn't back down, scoring a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. With the game tied 3-3 in the sixth, sophomore Jessica Iwasaki (0-6) came in for Chin at the mound, and received the loss after giving up two runs in the final two innings, as the Tigers gained a 5-3 lead to end the game.

The Bears will now travel to the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday, April 9, for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m., and will then host Dartmouth for doubleheaders on Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
