Providence, RI - The Brown softball team (7-15, 1-3 Ivy) dropped an 8-0 decision to visiting Boston College (6-11, 2-3 ACC) on Tuesday evening during a five-inning game.
The BC Eagles out-hit the Bears 12-7, and scored its runs in the second and fifth inning. Sophomore Michelle Moses (2-7) was at the mound when BC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in just the second inning. Dani Weir doubled to bring in two RBIs and Carley McNary brought in BC's third run after hitting a single.
The Bears had their chances on offense, but weren't able to bring in the runners they got on base. With two outs in the fourth inning, Brown had two runners on base. Freshman Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) started the offense off with a single to center field, and freshman Whitney Lewis (Irvine, CA) singled to left. Senior Liz Anderson (Oak Hill, VA) grounded out to first base for the third out.
The Eagles went off for five runs in the fifth inning, as Amanda Booth doubled to bring in Taylor Peyton. Brown freshman pitcher Jessica Iwasaki (Cupertino, CA) came in to relieve Moses with runners on second and third. Dani Weir singled to right field, to bring in two more BC runs. Jenna Macchi followed up with a single to left field bringing in two more Eagles to put the score at 8-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, freshman Brittany Lavine (Peoria, AZ) singled to second base, and with two outs, freshman Katie Rothamel (Brentwood, TN) singled to left field. Junior Amy Baxter (Hollister, CA) was hit by a pitch, which loaded Brown's bases for sophomore Kelsey Wilson (Monteray, CA). Wilson grounded out to the pitcher, and ended the game at 8-0.
Brown will travel to Columbia on Saturday, April 7 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader, and then travel to Penn on Sunday, April 8 for a doubleheader at noon. The Bears are back at home on Thursday, April 12 when they take on Boston University at 4 p.m.
