Softball Splits Doubleheader With North Carolina Wilmington

Wilmington, NC - The Brown softball team split a doubleheader match with North Carolina Wilmington on Thursday Mar. 27. The Seahawks edged the Bears in game one 2-1 but Brown bounced back to win game two, 6-5. The Bears scored four runs in the eighth and final inning to earn their fifth victory of the season. The team is now 5-10 overall.

Junior Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) went 2-3 from the plate in game two with two doubles, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Senior Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA) batted in four RBI while sophomore Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA) added a hit and two runs.

Sophomore Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA) took the win on the mound, pitching all eight innings. Berkes had three strikeouts and allowed three earned runs.

In game one, Omokaro went 1-3 from the plate with one run and a stolen base. She recorded the loss on the mound, pitching all six innings. She allowed just one earned run and four hits. Leonetti and Wong also added hits for the Bears.

Brown continues action on Friday Mar. 28 at Coastal Carolina for a doubleheader match beginning at 4 p.m.
