Kissimmee, FL - In its second day at the Rebel Spring Games, the Brown softball team (4-6) defeated Farleigh Dickinson 2-1, but then fell to Wagner, 5-4 later in the afternoon.
Against Wagner, the Bears got off to a slow start as the Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Hailey Corthell doubled to right center to bring in Jaclyn Vancore. Brown was silenced again in the third as Wagner tallied three more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead to 4-0.
The Bears came back strong in the sixth inning to score four runs to tie the game. Junior Andrea Browne (Vineland, NJ) started off the inning reaching first on an error, followed by a single to left field by freshman Sandra Mastrangelo (White Plains, NY). Kate Strobel's (Denver, CO) single to right field brought in Browne and Kelsey Wilson's (Monterey, CA) single up the middle scored Mastrangelo. Senior Michelle Moses' (Cooper City, FL) sacrifice bunt put Strobel on third base as freshman Trish Melvin (Wexford, PA) then hit a two-run single to tie the game.
While Brown was held scoreless in the top of the seventh, Wagner was able to score a run when Andrea Lazzari singled to right field to bring home Cindy Bagnoli who singled to right as well to win the game, 5-4.
Sophomore Emily Chaddock (Laguna Niguel, CA) pitched the first two innings giving up four runs, as Moses came in for relief for four innings to allow one run. Wagner's Kate Eshelman received the win to increase her record to 2-7 on the year.
