Softball Goes 1-1 In First Day Of Charleston Southern Tournament

Charleston, SC - The softball team saw their first action of the 2006 season, going 1-1 in the first day of the Charleston Southern Tournament this afternoon. The Bears opened up their season with a 3-2 loss to Western Carolina, but bounced back to defeat Rutgers 5-2 later in the afternoon.
In the first game Brown was led by freshman Kari Best (Corona, CA) offensively, going 2-2 with an RBI. Sophomore Amy Baxter (Hollister, CA) went 1-2 with a run scored and sophomore Linnea Anderson (El Dorado, CA) recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Freshman Michelle Moses (Cooper City, FL) recorded the loss on the mound for the Bears.
In the win freshman Kelsey Wilson (Monterey, CA) had the hot bat for Brown, going 3-4 with a double and scored one of the Bear's five runs. Classmate Ava Amini (Westlake, CA) went 2-3 and also recorded a double and crossed the plate for Brown. Sophomore Natalie Hewitt (Richmond, TX) had a two RBI double and later came across for Brown while junior Melissa Ota (Irvine, CA) went 1-3 and scored a run for Brown. Freshman Heather Garrison (Elk Grove, CA) recorded her fist collegiate win only allowing three hits and fanned five batters.
Brown will return to action tomorrow morning when they take on Furman for a 9:00 a.m. match up.
