PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University softball will play in 41 games, compete in the states of Florida and California, and take part in a new Ivy League scheduling model as part of its 2018 schedule, head coach Katie Flynn announced on Thursday.
During the tournament portion of their schedule, the Bears will make trips to the states of Florida and California as well as Washington, D.C. to start the year. In Ivy League play, Brown will square off with all seven conference opponents three times apiece with a doubleheader on Saturday and single game on Sunday.
"We are thrilled to move to a three-game series vs. all of our Ivy opponents, eliminating the North and South divisions," Flynn said. "Playing at one site each weekend lessens the travel strain. Overall, I think it is going to be a better experience for our student-athletes."
Brown opens its 2018 season with a tournament at Stetson University from Feb. 23-25. The Bears take on Colgate on Friday, Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m. in their season opener.
The Bears make another out-of-region trip the next weekend when they play in the Highlander Classic at UC Riverside in Riverside, Calif., from Mar. 2-3. The program concludes its tournament slate at George Washington's Buff & Blue Challenge from Mar. 16-18 in Washington, D.C.
Brown embarks on Ivy League play with a three-game series at Princeton from Mar. 24-25 prior to playing a pair of doubleheaders at Hartford (Mar. 27) and at Quinnipiac (Mar. 28).
In their first home games of the season, the Bears host Penn for a three-game set from Mar. 31 to Apr. 1. Brown returns to the road with three games at Cornell (Apr. 7-8).
In its only non-conference home game of the year, Brown hosts Rhode Island for a single game on Apr. 11 prior to welcoming Columbia to Providence for a weekend series from Apr. 14-15.
After a single contest at crosstown rival Providence (Apr. 17), Brown travels to Yale for three games from Apr. 21-22.
In their final home weekend, the Bears host Harvard for three games from Apr. 28-29. Brown will honor its seniors in their final home game on Apr. 29. The team concludes the regular season with a series at Dartmouth (May 5-6).
