McGregor, Wimmer to Act as Softball Captains in 2018

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University softball senior Annie McGregor and junior Meghan Wimmer will serve the Bears as captains for the 2018 season, head coach Katie Flynn announced on Monday.

A native of Carlsbad, Calif., McGregor earned First Team All-Ivy, Third Team NFCA All-Northeast Region, Team MVP, and Academic All-Ivy honors last season. She started all 45 games and hit nine home runs, tied for the fourth-most in a single season at Brown. McGregor tallied 33 RBIs, the fourth-most in a single season at Brown, and led the team in home runs, RBIs, hits (49), doubles (10), triples (three), batting average (.348), and slugging percentage (.652)

A product of Boothwyn, Pa., Wimmer garnered Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors and the team's Zucconi Strength Award last season as a threat for the Bears both in the circle and at the plate. She played in 27 games, making 22 appearances and 17 starts in the circle last spring, tallying a 4.31 ERA, 6-11 record, eight complete games, and 41 strikeouts over 105.2 innings. At the plate, she hit .389 with 14 hits, four runs, six doubles, seven RBIs, and a home run.

The duo and the rest of the Bears will open their 2018 season in late February.
