PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University softball alumna Janet Leung '16 competed in multiple tournaments for Softball Canada this summer, playing with the Women's Elite Team at the Canada Cup and with the Women's National Team at the Japan Cup.
A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Leung made her first career appearance with the Canadian Women's National Team, starting at shortstop against Australia on August 26 in the Japan Cup. Making her debut with the full National Team, Leung and Canada placed fourth at the Japan Cup from Aug. 25-28.
Leung's summer began with Softball Canada's Selection Camp from June 22-27 in Mississauga. After the camp she earned a spot on the Women's Elite Team for the Canada Cup.
At the Canada Cup from July 7-17 in Surrey, British Columbia, Leung played in six games posting a .375 batting average (6-for-16) with five RBIs and a run. She went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run in a 9-5 win over Team British Columbia on July 10 and went 2-for-3 with an RBI in an 8-5 loss to Venezuela on July 15 as the Elite Team went 4-5 at the event.
A four-time All-Ivy selection, Leung finished her career third all-time at Brown in at bats (493) and fifth in doubles (35) while starting all 151 games over her four years. For her Brown career, she posted a .304 batting average, 150 hits, 35 doubles, 79 runs, and 52 RBIs.
