Nakashima Hurls Softball to Split with Dartmouth
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman pitcher Leah Nakashima (San Jose, Calif.) tossed a combined 11.0 innings without allowing an earned run, helping the Brown softball team claim a 3-1 win over Dartmouth after falling 6-2 in the opener in Ivy League action on Sunday. The Bears pick up their first win in Ancient Eight play while handing the league-leading Big Green its first Ivy League loss of the season.

Softball Falls to Dartmouth, 7-1 and 4-0
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Kelsey Williams (Greenwood, Ind.) belted a game-tying home run in the second inning of game one but the Brown softball team lost both ends of an Ivy League doubleheader against Dartmouth, 7-1 and 4-0, on Saturday. The Big Green knocked 24 hits between both games and rode a pair of stellar pitching performances to its league-leading 14-0 Ivy record.

Softball to Honor 2004 Ivy League Champions on Saturday
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Prior to Saturday’s doubleheader against Dartmouth, the Brown softball team will honor the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Ivy League Championship team. Director of Athletics Jack Hayes and Head Coach Katie Flynn will lead pregame ceremonies to recognize the team for its accomplishments and place in Brown athletics history.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior pitcher Jessica Cherness (Torrance, Calif.) held the Crusaders to one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts in game one but the Brown softball team dropped a pair of non-league games, 3-1 and 8-0 in five innings, to Holy Cross at Freshman Field on Thursday.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown softball team fell in both ends of an Ivy League doubleheader at Harvard, losing 6-4 and 5-2 at Soliders Field on Sunday.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Janet Leung (Mississauga, Ontario) rapped three hits with a double but the Brown softball team endured a pair of losses to Harvard, 4-1 and 4-0, in Ivy League action at Soldiers Field on Saturday.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown softball team dropped both ends of an Ivy League doubleheader at Penn, falling to the Quakers 8-0 in five innings in game one and 5-3 in the nightcap at Penn Park on Wednesday.

Softball Dropped Twice by Princeton
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Molly Ann Mecca (Jessup, Pa.) doubled and homered in the nightcap to lead a pack of five Bears with three hits on the day, but the Brown softball team (2-20, 0-6 Ivy) fell to Princeton 7-6 in eight innings in the opener and 8-3 in game two in an Ivy League double header on Sunday.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Trista Chavez (San Pedro, Calif.) and freshman Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas) each ripped three hits for the Bears but the Cornell bats slugged eight extra base hits as the Brown softball team fell to the Big Red, 8-3 and 7-1, in an Ivy League double header at the Brown softball field on Saturday.

Softball Falls to Bryant in Extra Innings, 6-2
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Kelsey Williams (Greenwood, Ind.) singled three times and junior pitcher Jessica Cherness (Torrance, Calif.) battled for 8.1 innings but Bryant assembled a four-run rally in the ninth to beat the Brown softball team, 6-2, in nine innings in non-league action on Thursday.

Softball Opens Ivy League Play at Columbia, Penn This Weekend
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Twelve days removed from its third tournament in as many weekends, the Brown softball team opens its Ivy League schedule under second-year Head Coach Katie Flynn when the Bears travel to Columbia and Penn for Ancient Eight doubleheaders this weekend. Brown (2-13) faces the Lions (9-9) on Friday at 12 p.m. and the Quakers (4-9) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Alex Scott (Santa Cruz, Calif.) belted a first-game home run and scored twice to cap a 3-for-5 day, but the Brown softball team dropped a pair of contests to St. Francis (Pa.), 4-2, and George Washington, 3-0, at the Capital Invitational on Sunday.

Andrews Named Ivy League Softball Player and Rookie of the Week
PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown softball freshman Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas) slugged her way to being named the Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. The awards are the first of Andrews’ career, the first for Brown this season and the first multiple-award winner for the Bears since Liz DiMascio was named Pitcher and Rookie of the Week on Mar. 16, 2010.

Softball Bested by St. Mary’s, LMU to Wrap Up West Coast Weekend
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Freshman Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas) continued to swing a hot bat with a double and a home run, but the Brown softball team surrendered to St. Mary’s, 5-3, and Loyola Marymount, 8-0 in six innings, to cap six games in three days at Smith Field. Brown moves to 2-9 overall while the Gaels improve to 11-12 and the Lions are 13-8.

Softball Blanked by Loyola Marymount, Belmont at LMU Invitational
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Freshman Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas) batted 5-for-6 with a pair of doubles but the Brown softball team ran into back-to-back stellar pitching performances in a 5-0 loss to Loyola Marymount and a 3-0 setback to Belmont at Smith Field on Saturday. The Bears slip to 2-7 overall, while the Lions improve to 12-8 and Belmont climbs to 6-11.

Softball Dropped by Lehigh, Loyola Marymount in LMU Invitational
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A pair of strong pitching performances made offense hard to come by as the Brown softball team fell to Lehigh, 5-2, and host squad Loyola Marymount, 5-0, on the opening day of the LMU Invitational at Smith Field on Friday. The Bears now stand at 2-5, while the Mountain Hawks are 3-9 and the Lions are 10-8.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A five-run sixth inning outburst gave the Brown softball team enough space to outlast UNC Wilmington in a 7-6 victory at Boseman Field on Sunday. The Bears finish the Wilmington Beach Bash with a 2-3 record and the Seahawks drop to 8-8 overall.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas) homered and ripped the game-winning RBI base hit to cap a 3-for-7 day and lift the Brown softball team (1-3) to a 10-9 extra-inning win over Bucknell after falling to UNC Greensboro, 4-0, at Boseman Field on Saturday.

Softball Opening Day Slated for Friday at UNC Wilmington
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A southbound escape from colder climates begins on Friday as the Brown softball team kicks off its 2014 season with five games in three days at the UNC Wilmington Beach Bash. Under the direction of second-year Head Coach Katie Flynn, the Bears take on Bucknell and UNC Wilmington twice and UNC Greensboro once in the season-opening tournament, beginning against the Bison on Friday at 9 a.m.

Softball Names Refsnyder, Lamoureux as Assistant Coaches
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball Head Coach Katie Flynn has named Kate Refsnyder and Megan Lamoureux as assistant coaches for the 2014 season, it was announced on Tuesday. Refsnyder joined the staff in September of 2013, while Lamoureux officially begins her duties as of Jan. 7.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head Coach Katie Flynn announced seniors Jen Kries (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Kelsey Williams (Greenwood, Ind.) and junior Trista Chavez (San Pedro, Calif.) as the Brown softball team captains for the 2014 season as voted upon by the members of the team.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University head softball coach Katie Flynn has announced the eight members of the Class of 2017 who will join the Bears in the fall. Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas), Gina Chieffallo (Eynon, Pa.), Casey Fisher (Oro Valley, Ariz.), Lauren Hanna (Milford, Mass.), Leah Nakashima (San Jose, Calif.), Jessica Pinkney (Raleigh, N.C.), Julia Schoenewald (Jamison, Pa.) and Sarah Syrop (Kennesaw, Ga.) make up Brown’s freshman class for the 2014 season.
