Hannah Angel Joins Brown Softball Staff

Providence, R.I. – Brown University softball coach Katie Flynn has announced the addition of Hannah Angel to her coaching staff. Angel comes to College Hill from Emmanuel College in Boston, Mass., where she served as the head softball coach during the 2011-12 season.

"Hannah stood out from a very strong applicant pool as the clear candidate of choice," said Flynn. "She had an outstanding undergraduate career at UNCG in the perennially strong Southern Conference. Coach Angel has the passion for the game and a strong background for the mechanics of pitching, calling the game and mental preparation for the staff. Her ability to work with our five pitchers on a daily basis will be instrumental in rebuilding this program. I am thrilled to welcome her to Brown."

"I am honored to be named the assistant softball coach at Brown and to be a part of Coach Flynn's staff," added Angel. "It is an exciting opportunity to help lead this team into a new era of Brown softball."

As head coach at Division III Emmanuel College, Angel was responsible for the overall program administration, including game/practice planning and organization. Angel was also in charge of the evaluation and recruitment of qualified student-athletes, player development and fundraising efforts.

During that time, Angel also worked at the Rams Athletic Complex, an indoor baseball facility in North Reading, MA, giving pitching and hitting lessons.

Prior to Emmanuel, Angel spent two years as an assistant softball coach at Simmons College in Boston, Mass., where she was involved in all aspects of the program, including pitching, recruiting, and arranging practice schedules.

Angel graduated from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in May, 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in History & Sociology. A member of the Spartan softball team, Angel was ranked third all-time in strikeouts, and was a member of the 2008 Southern Conference All-Tournament Team. In 2008-09, she was in the Southern Conference Top 5 in ERA, wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. Angel also competed in the 2008 Olympic Team Expedition Game Tour of Beijing.

Angel went on to receive a Masters in Social Work from Simmons College in 2011.
