Stephanie Thompson Named Ivy League Co-Player of the Year; Kate Strobel & Avery Silverstein earn All-Ivy honors

Providence, RI- Junior Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Year and earned first team All-Ivy honors after a vote by the league's coaches. Also, senior Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) received first team All-Ivy honors, and junior Avery Silverstein (Woodbridge, CT) earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy accolades.

Thompson, Brown's starting shortstop, ended the year with a .477 average, which currently ranks second in Division I. She led the Bears in hits (51), runs (27), home runs (9), RBI (27) and total bases (90). She started in all 37 games for the Bears and posted a .920 fielding percentage and boasted a .571 on-base percentage, which ranks sixth in the nation. Thompson ranks third in the nation as toughest to strike out as she saw three strikes just two times all season. Thompson's .477 batting average led the League, as did her slugging percentage (.841), her on-base percentage (.571) and walks (25).

In just three years, Thompson ranks second in the Brown record book for career home runs (24), second in career batting average (.438), fourth in runs scored (91), third in hits (156), second in doubles (37), and fourth in RBI (82). She is Brown's fourth Ivy League Player of the Year and first since Katie King won the award in 1996. Thompson also earned first-team All-Ivy honors as a shortstop, was selected as the Ivy League Player of the week twice, and earned first team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District honors earlier this season. She also garnered first team All-Northeast Region honors.

Strobel, a first team All-Ivy selection and second team All-Northeast region honoree, started in 34 games before being sidelined the last three contests due to an injury. Brown's starting first baseman, Strobel's .408 batting average ranked third in the Ivy League. She also ranked second in slugging percentage (.757), second in on base percentage (.496), first in homeruns (9), and fourth in total bases (78). She earned first team CoSIDA/Academic All-District honors.

A junior left fielder for the Bears, Silverstein started and played in 35 games this season. Third on the team in batting average (.262), Silverstein tallied 22 hits, 10 runs, and two RBI. She had 50 putouts on the year, including two assists, and made just one error for a .981 fielding percentage.
