Cambridge, MA- The Brown University softball team (8-22, 5-9 Ivy) dropped two games to the Harvard University Crimson (25-11, 12-1 Ivy) on Friday afternoon at Soldiers Field. The Bears were defeated 2-1 in 10 innings, and lost the second 2-1 in seven.
The Bears tallied the first run of the game in the top of the first inning when junior Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) homered to left center field. It wasn't until the sixth when Harvard would get on the scoreboard when Scott hit an RBI single up the middle to bring in Rosenbaum.
The game went into extra innings, but Harvard was able to top Bruno in the bottom of the 10th after senior Jane Alexander hit a walk-off homer to center field to win, 2-1.
Freshman Jessica Cherness (6-9) earned the loss on the mound as she gave up two runs on eight hits in nine innings. She also struck out three and walked two. Senior Rachel Brown (15-4) was victorious for Harvard in the circle pitching 10 innings and giving up just one run and one hit. She struck out 14 Brown batters and walked just three.
In game two of the twin bill, Harvard brought in a run in the first inning and again in the third to take a 2-0 lead over the Bears. It wasn't until the top of the sixth when Brown would score, with a Misa Wong RBI-single scoring Thompson.
That was as close as Brown would come as Laura Ricciardone earned the win on the mound to improve to 11-6 on the year. She gave up just one run on five hits and struck out four. Dense van der Goot dropped to 2-8 on the season and gave up two runs on four his and struck out eight.
The Bears will take on Harvard again tomorrow starting at 12:30 p.m.
