Providence, RI- The Bryant University Bulldogs won its 11th straight game when it defeated the Brown softball team 2-1 this evening at the Erickson Athletic Complex at Brown University. Bryant improved to 16-11 on the year while the Bears dropped to 7-11-1.
After two scoreless innings, the Bears were able to tally the first run of the game in the bottom of the third when sophomore Stephanie Thompson singled to first base and advanced to second on an error. Freshman Jen Kries, who reached first on an error by Bryant's third baseman previously, crossed home plate on the error to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Senior pitcher Kristie Chin continued to shut down the Bulldog batters and did again in the fourth, but Bryant came up with a two-run fifth inning that would eventually win the game. With the bases loaded, Lauren Guy hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Lauren McCart, and Laura Bowen singled up the middle to cross Amy Weinberg to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1.
The Bears tried to rally back in the final two innings, which included hits by Chin and Thompson, but it wasn't enough to get by the Bulldog defense.
