Providence, RI- Junior pitcher Kristie Chin hit a homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Brown University softball team (18-20, 5-11 Ivy) to a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth (14-22, 11-4 Ivy) on Wednesday afternoon to split the series. The Bears fell 4-3 in the first game of the doubleheader today after the Big Green had a three-run fourth inning rally to take the win.
In game one, the Bears were able to get on the scoreboard first when a single up the middle by senior Amanda Asay and an error on a Dartmouth outfielder led to freshman Aly Caplan crossing the plate to give Brown a 1-0 edge. But the Big Green were able to even the score in the top of the third when Hillary Hubert singled up the middle to bring in Nikki Yee.
The Bears were held scoreless in the third as Dartmouth was able to come up with a three-run fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Two Brown errors led to Dartmouth's first two scores of the inning and a double to center field by Kirsten Costello brought in the team's third run.
Brown chipped away at its deficit by scoring a run in the sixth when freshman Stephanie Thompson scored on a Dartmouth error. Then, the Bears cut their deficit to one when Avery Silverstein's single up the middle brought home senior Andrea Browne. But that was as close as Brown would come, as Dartmouth came away with the win, 4-3.
Chin allowed seven hits on zero earned runs and struck out six in seven innings of work for the Bears to move to 11-4 overall. Hillary Barker earned the win at the mound giving up two runs on five hits and struck out seven Brown batters.

The game was scoreless for the first three innings until Brown earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when freshman Lauren Kattchee doubled to center field to bring home pinch runner Danielle Comissiong.
Chin shut down Dartmouth for the fifth and sixth inning, but the Big Green snagged a run in the top of the seventh when Lauren Clarkson homered to right center field to tie the game 1-1.
But just as quickly as Dartmouth tied it up, Brown's Chin started off the bottom of the seventh with a homerun over the leftfield fence to earn the win.
