Kissimmee, FL- The Brown softball team went 1-1 during the first day of the Rebel Spring Games earning a 6-4 win against Manhattan, but then falling 6-0 to the Cleveland State Vikings.
Against Manhattan, the Bears found themselves down 4-1 in the top of the sixth, but Bruno scored five unanswered runs to secure the victory. Sophomore Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) had a walk, freshman Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) had a double, while rookie Liz DiMascio (Braintree, MA), freshman Lauren Kattchee (Houston, TX), junior Kristie Chin (Katy, TX) and Sandra Mastrangelo (White Plains, NY) each had singles in the inning to contribute to the five runs.
DiMascio earned the win pitching the final four and two-thirds innings gicing up 0 runs, two hits, two walks and struck out four batters.
In the second game of the day, Brown suffered their first shutout of the 2010 season against an aggressive Cleveland State offense and strong pitching from Amanda Macenko who gave up only three hits to the Bears.
DiMascio suffered the loss going four and one-third innings fiving up five runs on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
The Bears are back in action today when it takes on Wisconsin-Green Bay and St. Peter's.
