PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown University senior Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI) and junior Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA) have been named 2008 Second Team All-NEWISA (New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association). This is the second NEWISA honor for Cunningham this season, as she was also selected to play in the 2008 NEWISA Senior Bowl.
A four-time All-Ivy honoree, Cunningham was named to the Second Team All-Ivy this season. A four-year starter and one of the top scorers on the team all four seasons, Cunningham missed just two games during her career, both due to injury. She closed out her senior season leading the Bears in points (15), goals (6), and game-winning goals (3). She was also 10th in the Ivy League in points, fifth in goals, and third in game-winning goals. A two-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection and a 2007 Academic All-Ivy honoree, Cunningham played in 66 career games, starting in 52. She will leave Brown ranked 11th all-time with 19 career goals, 10th all-time with 15 career assists, and 10th all-time with 53 career points. In addition, he eight assists during the 2006 season ranks fifth all-time at Brown for assists in a single season.
Ballard, who was also recently named a captain for the 2009 season, was also a repeat All-Ivy selection, earning Second Team honors after earning Honorable Mention All-Ivy a year ago. Ballard started all 17 games this season at center-mid and played all but 15 minutes of Brown's season. A dominant player in the midfield, Ballard finished the season with four points on one goal and two assists. This season, Ballard was also recognized for her off-field achievements, earning CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District honors. In three seasons, Ballard has started all but four games (due to injury), playing nearly every minute of every game during this time. In 47 career games, all starts, Ballard has posted 11 points (3g, 5a).
