PROVIDENCE, RI - The New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) released those Division I women's soccer players in New England who were recognized as either First or Second Team All-New England and Brown had two athletes, seniors Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) and Michaela Sewall (Newton, MA), each earning First Team honors.
Sewall, who earned Second Team Northeast Regional All-American honors, adds this to an impressive list of accolades. An Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection a year ago, earned First Team All-Ivy honors this season. She led the Bears this year in assists with six (second in the League), including five in Ivy games, while finishing second on the team with 16 points (5 goals, 6 assists), 10th in the Ivy League. A 2002 SoccerBuzz Third Team All-Region selection, her 15 career assists ranks eighth all-time among Brown's career assist leaders.
Gervais, who was recently named the team's MVP at their post-season dinner, earned Second Team All-Ivy recognition this year, after earning First Team honors a year ago. Gervais led all Ivy League goalies with 82 saves, while posting a 0.75 GAA, second in the Ivy League, and a .854 save percentage with a League-leading seven shutouts. The Ivy League Player of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts over Northeastern and New Hampshire, Gervais also earned a spot on the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week that same week. She will leave Brown with 10 career shutouts, having played a part in 23 Brown shutouts during her career, helping the team to 10 in 2000 and then three in 2001 (splitting time with Brown's other keeper during those two seasons). Last year, Gervais recorded three shutouts.
