Gervais Named ECAC Goaltender of the Week
Nov. 14, 2002
Junior Sarah Gervais, of Harrisville, Rhode Island, who was named Ivy League Player of the week following her stellar play in a 2-0 shutout of Yale in Brown's season finale, also picked up ECAC Goaltender of the Week honors. The ECAC receives nominations from the various conferences in all Divisions, and selects a soccer player of goaltender of the week in divisions I, II, and III.
Gervais, who totaled nine saves, picked up her third shutout of the season, and of her career, with the win. After Brown took a 2-0 lead with goals in the 78th and 82nd minutes, Gervais stopped Chandra King on a penalty shot in the 85th minute, making a sprawling save on the PK and then a point blank save on King's follow-up shot.
The win marked Brown's first Ivy win of the season, as the Bears closed out the 2002 season with a 6-9-2 record. Next season, Brown returns six of the top eight scorers and nearly all of the defense, including Gervais, who finished this season with a 1.35 goals against average, a .854 save percentage and three shutouts.
