Brown Women's Soccer Rallies for 3-2 Overtime Win Over Yale
Splaine scored on a scramble in front of the goal, following a corner kick by senior Michaela Rooney. Yale tried to clear, but the ball bounced off two Brown players to Slpaine who one-touched the ball past Yale goalkeeper Sarah Peterson.
Yale opened the scoring at the 32:27 mark when junior Sara Ruiz was pulled down in the box and converted a penalty kick, despite Brown keeper Mary Jo Markle getting a hand on the ball.
The Elis extended their lead to 2-0 when sophomore striker Liz Jarchow took a pass from senior Jennifer Mendoza in the box, and fired the ball past Markle at 46:25. Brown's furious second half comeback started when junior Kim Lanzire scored off a header from Rooney with 7:57 remaining in regulation.
The Bears kept the pressure in the Yale half of the field and junior Allyson Schwerdt tied the game for Brown at the 87:37 mark one-touching a long ball from freshman Kristin Ferrell after a nifty sideline pass from senior Bekah Splaine.
Yale also completed its regular season, finishing with a 9-7-1 overall record, 3-4 in the Ivy League.
