Gervais Named Ivy League Player of the Week

Sept. 22, 2003

Senior Sarah Gervais, of Harrisville, Rhode Island, earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors (week ending September 21), following her stellar play in last weeks wins, earning back-to-back shutouts.

Gervais helped to lead Brown to its fifth shutout of the year, as well as her fifth of the season and of her career, with two shutout wins on the week, 3-0 against Northeastern and 2-0 against New Hampshire. She stopped all 14 shots, a season-high, she faced in Wednesday's win over Northeastern and made eight saves in Saturday's win against UNH, including several diving saves in both games.

Gervais, who leads the league with 47 saves and five shutouts, currently has a 0.54 GAA, second in the Ivy League, and a .922 save percentage, and has allowed just four goals in seven games. Though the fourth and fifth of her career, she has now played a part in 21 shutouts (including the two from this past week) during her time at Brown. She helped the team to 10 in 2000 and three in 2001 (splitting time with Brown's other keeper during those two seasons). Last year, Gervais notched three shutouts.
