Kim Lanzire leads Brown to its Fourth Shutout of the Season and Fifth Consecutive Win

Providence, R.I. -- Kim Lanzire fired in a shot from 18 yards out to lead the Bears to a 1-0 victory over the Leopards at Stevenson Field on Sunday afternoon in the Bears' 2000 home opener.

After a scoreless first half in which Brown dominated and outshot the Leopards 10-4, both teams came out determined to break the tie.

Just 12 minutes into the second half, senior co-captain Michaela Rooney served the ball to the left side of the field where freshman midfielder Kristin Ferrell was waiting for the pass. She immediately delivered the ball to Lanzire, who was just inside the 18. Lanzire took a few quick dribbles and booted the ball over sophomore goalie Ashley Wesmiller and into the netting.

This marks the third consecutive game in which Lanzire has scored, including a 1-0 shutout of Boston University.

Goalkeepers junior Mary Jo Markle and freshman Sarah Gervais each played a half for the Bears. Markle stopped two Lafayette shots, while the Brown defense did not surrender a single Leopard shot in the second half.

Ashley Wesmiller stopped 14 Brown shots for the Leopards in 90 minutes of action as Brown out-shot Lafayette 25-4.

The Bears, ranked sixth in the Northeast Region, will host 22nd ranked (third in the Northeast Region) Harvard on Saturday September 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field in the Ivy League opener for Brown. Harvard began league play with a 2-1 victory over Pennsylvania on Saturday.
