PROVIDENCE, RI - Boston College (11-7-1) scored with just 18 seconds remaining in the game to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Brown (5-8-2), 2-1, in a Northeast Regional women's soccer contest Wednesday evening at Stevenson Field, as the Bears dropped their fourth 2-1 decision in a row.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Lindsey Fairweather just 9:13 into the game, but the strong play of junior goalie Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) kept the Bears within striking distance, as she stopped eight shots in the first half alone.
With time running out on the clock, freshman Meaghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) scored the equalizer for the Bears. Classmate Kim LaVere (Chatsworth, CA) served a perfect corner kick into the box and after an attempted header hit the crossbar, Schreck headed the rebound into the back of the net with 2:27 left to play.
However, Sarah Rahko, who tallied an assist on BC's first goal, fired the ball past Gervais from 20 yards out with just 18 seconds remaining for the game-winner.
Gervais stopped 14 shots in net for Brown, while Kate Taylor made one save for the Eagles.
Brown continues action on Saturday, November 2, when they travel to Philadelphia for an Ivy League match-up with Pennsylvania at 11:00 a.m.
