Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaking 2-1 Decision to Cornell
Oct. 26, 2002
PROVIDENCE, RI - Cornell (8-4-1, 2-4) scored with just over ten minutes remaining in the game to break open a 1-1 game and defeat Brown (5-7-2, 0-4-1), 2-1, in an Ivy League women's soccer contest Saturday evening at Stevenson Field.
The two teams battled in a steady rain the entire first half, with Cornell getting on the board first, less than one minute into the second stanza.
However, Brown senior Kristin Nabb (Trumbull, CT) sent a long cross through the box and junior Molly Cahan (Encino, CA) one-timed the ball into the back of the net to knot the contest at 1-1 in the 68th minute.
The Bears then had several chances to net the go-ahead goal, but the Big Red scored on a breakaway with just over ten minutes remaining for the final 2-1.
Brown junior goalie Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) finished with 12 saves for the Bears, while Cornell's Katie Thomas stopped five shots for the Big Red.
Brown continues action on Wednesday, October 30th, when it hosts Boston College at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
